CRI听力:Security Remains Tight in Paris Jewish Quarter One Month after Attack
The Jewish quarter in Paris continues to be heavily secured one month after the deadly attack that killed four hostages in a kosher supermarket on January 9.
At a kosher shop in the historical Jewish area of Paris, business seemed normal, but the area is on alert.
A nearby synagogue is temporarily closed to visitors, and armed soldiers keep guard at a Jewish school nearby.
Despite the increased security presence, some have called for more to be done to tackle the root causes of anti-Semitism rather than its effects.
Benjamin Abtan is president of the European Grassroots Anti-Racist Movement.
"It cannot be a perspective to have a policeman with every Jew. It's not possible, it's not wishable. So, it's necessary, but only security measures are not sufficient because they produce more anxiety than they solve."
Jewish leaders said rising anti-Semitism has forced large numbers of Jews to leave France for good at a rate of thousands per year.
After the Paris attacks, France finds itself grappling with a series of complicated issues, many of which revolve around religion and how different religious groups can live together peacefully.
