CRI听力:300 Migrants Feared Dead after Boats Sink: UNHCR
More than 300 migrants are feared dead after their flotilla was caught up in rough weather in the Mediterranean this week.
A group of boats set off from Libya on Saturday in an attempt to reach Italy's Lampedusa Island, which is located a few hundred kilometers off the northern coast of Libya.
However, it's feared all four of the boats in the flotilla have gone down.
Carlotta Sami is with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees office in Italy.
"They confirmed what other survivors previously said, that there were 203 people with them that have disappeared. They have been swallowed by the sea, but in addition to that, they confirmed that there was a fourth dinghy, so we do not know about the fate of another hundred people."
Earlier this week, the Italian coast guard pulled more than 100 people out of the water.
However, 29 of them died of hypothermia in the 18 hours it took the coast guard to ferry them to Lampedusa.
