CRI听力:Danish PM Calls Shooting "Terrorist Attack"

2015-02-15来源:CRI

Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt has condemned a deadly shooting at a café in Copenhagen as it hosted a free speech event.

The shooting left one man dead and three police officers injured.

Police say a gunman fired several dozen shots through the windows of a local cafe where speakers were debating about whether any limits should be placed on artistic expression.

The event was organized by Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has faced numerous threats after caricaturing the Prophet Muhammad.

Thorning-Schmidt calls the shooting a "terrorist attack".

"Denmark has been hit by a very serious act of violence tonight. We feel certain now that it's a politically motivated attack, and thereby it is a terrorist attack. We take this situation extremely seriously. We are in a high alarm all over the country, and our main priority at this stage is to catch the perpetrators and make sure that we find them as soon as possible."

There is no immediate claim of responsibility for the shooting in Copenhagen.

Police initially believed there had been two suspects, but later said they are searching for a lone gunman.

Organizer of Saturday's event says the venue was guarded by armed police, security agents and Vilks' own bodyguards.

The 68-year-old Vilks stoked controversy in 2007 by drawing pictures of the Prophet Muhammad dressed as a dog.

An American woman last year got a 10-year prison term for a plot to kill Vilks.

In 2010, two brothers tried to burn down his house in southern Sweden and were imprisoned for attempted arson.

The shooting comes a month after Islamic militants attacked the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine in Pairs which left 12 people dead.
