CRI听力:Surveillance Tape Reveals Car Crashing into US Consulate in Shanghai
A surveillance video has been released on an apparent assault targeting the US Consulate in Shanghai.
The tapes recorded the shocking moment when a car rammed into the guardrail of the US Consulate General in Shanghai late on Thursday, injuring a Chinese armed police guard.
Chen Zhaochang, another guard on spot described the scene.
"We found a Toyota making a u-turn here and then suddenly speeding up towards the gate here. The guards on No.2 Sentry immediately went over to stop it. The squad leader Sun Tao was knocked away. I got injured after the car crashed into the guardrail."
Police nearby and consulate guards have captured the driver, a 35 year-old named Liu Daojie from southeast China's Fujian Province.
Liu claimed he ran a large company in Fujian and felt someone wanted to kill him, so he tried to provoke an incident to draw attention.
Police has so far ruled out drunk and drug driving.
Further investigation is underway.
