Revisions to the Air Pollution Prevention and Control law have caught the public's attention.

Zhang Quan, the chief of Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, says the amendments will greatly improve the efficiency of law enforcement.

"If there are cars giving off black smoke on the roads or chimneys discharging black emissions, we can surely define it as illegal immediately. There's no need to judge a violation case through very complicated testing procedures as what we have done according to the current law."

Meanwhile, a series of food safety incidents exposed last year have caused great public concern.

Some fast food chains using expired and substandard meat created huge controversy.

Yuan Jie, an official from the legislation committee of the National People's Congress says the food safety law currently being deliberated will address people's concerns about the system.

"For example, the current law and the revised law both prescribe that recycled food materials are banned from being used in food production. According to the second draft of the food safety law, those who violate this item will face huge fines. serious violators could even face administrative detention."

Also in this year, China's first anti-terrorism law is expected to come into effect.

Experts say the law will have great influence on people's lives.

Li Wei, an anti-terror expert, has participated in drafting the law.

"It is the duty of every citizen to report clues they suspect to be related to terrorism to the security authority for the sake of public safety. The law also stipulates that materials concerning people's privacy can not be used for any purposes other than anti-terrorism. "

Authorities also reveal that the revision of the Securities Law which is highly concerned by China's shareholders and investors has already been put into legislative procedure.
