CRI听力:Nie Shubin's Lawyers Submit Opinion Letter to Court

2015-04-10来源:CRI

Attorneys have submitted an opinion letter to a Shandong court after reviewing the case files of Nie Shubin who was executed 20 years ago over a rape-murder case.

The two attorneys for Nie's family say they have found several errors in the case including lack of evidences and the possibility of extorting a confession by torture.

The lawyers have already submitted the 70,000-word opinion letter to Shandong Higher People's Court.

Li Shuting is one of the family lawyers.

"The presiding judges surnamed Zhu and Meng from the Shandong Higher People's Court talked with us. Zhu reiterated repeatedly that the court will review Nie Shubin's case based on facts and the law."

Li says Nie was executed in April, 1995, but the signature on his petition for appeal was inscribed in May.

He also says the handwriting appears different from Nie's.

Nie Shubin was executed at the age of 21 for the rape and murder of a woman in Hebei province.

The case has been in the spotlight since another man, Wang Shujun, insisted that he was responsible for the crime.

Wang was apprehended by police in 2005 for three rape and murder cases and confessed to a rape and murder with the same facts as in Nie's case.

Hebei's higher court, which approved the death penalty for Nie, rejected Wang's request for a retrial in 2013.

The Supreme People's Court ordered the Shandong court to review the case last December.
