CRI听力:Australian FM Bishop Meets Rouhani and Zarif

2015-04-20来源:CRI

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop met Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday.

This marks the first high-level talks between the two countries in more than a decade.

Australian foreign minister Julie Bishop says she has a positive outlook on the two sides' discussion of Iran's nuclear deal.

"I am very pleased that there has been progress made in the P5+1 negotiations with Iran and of course should a balanced reciprocal mutually beneficial agreement be reached, then the issue of sanctions will follow that."

Iran and the five world nuclear powers plus Germany have reached a framework agreement on ensuring that Tehran's nuclear program has no military applications.

A deal is supposed to be finalized by June 30 that would curb Iran's program in return for lifting Western economic sanctions.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif discussed ongoing concerns about the presence of Western citizens and Australians among Islamic State terrorists:

"We have discussed our shared concern regarding the issue of extremism and terrorism in the region and also how to deal with the very dangerous phenomenon of Daesh in this region."

According to Australian media reports, Bishop will also discuss the fate of those Iranian asylum seekers that have not been granted a residence permit to stay in Australia.
