CRI听力:Powerful Quake Kills One in Taiwan

One person has been killed and another one injured after a powerful earthquake in waters off Taiwan caused a fire this Monday morning.

The quake has caused a junction box near a residential building in New Taipei City to explode, which started the fire.

An 84-year-old was killed in the fire and another person has been hospitalized.

Tremors have been felt across Taiwan, especially in Taipei.

Transportation was only minimally affected.

"We found 3 cars piled up on each other on the 7th floor. There are also four other cars damaged on the same floor. On the floor above, there are also four more cars damaged. In total, there are 11 damaged cars."

The China Earthquake Networks Center says the earthquake measured 6.4 on the Richter scale. The quake hit at a depth of 7 kilometers.

Japan Meteorological Agency has also lifted a tsunami advisory after the earthquake rattled Taiwan and small islands in the far south of Japan.
