The Chinese envoy to the United Nations has called for more humanitarian assistance in Syria and its neighboring countries.
Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the UN says that China will step up assistance to ease the deteriorating situation.
"China attaches great importance to the humanitarian situation in Syria. We sympathize with the Syrian people for their suffering. Through various channels, we have provided materials and cash support to the Syrian people including its refugees, totaling over 230 million yuan."
The Chinese envoy calls upon the donors to honor their commitment to mitigate pressure resulting from the shortage of funds.
The Syrian crisis over the past five years has left 220-thousand people dead, more than one million injured and 7.6 million displaced.
