2015-05-04来源:CRI

Thousands of people have marched on the streets of Baltimore holding a "victory rally".

These latest demonstrations come just one day after six officers involved in the arrest of a black man who died in police custody were charged by Baltimore prosecutors.

Demonstrator Kwame Rose discusses the aim of the march.

"So today's just to show the world that the youth that were displayed on the media on Monday night and Saturday night, as thugs and criminals, that we are actually peaceful citizens marching for productive change in the city."

The march was planned to be a mass protest against the police's treatment toward Freddie Gray.

Another demonstrator, Cephus Johnson, the uncle of Oscar Grant who was shot by a transit police officer in Oakland, California in 2009, calls people to speak up for their own rights.

"So, we know without a doubt that with community involvement, with people speaking up and utilizing their first amendment right to this issue, that there's more apt of a chance of the officers actually sent to prison for the murder of Freddie Gray versus just being charged."

The six officers have been charged of crimes ranging from assault to second degree murder in the death of Freddie Gray.
