CRI听力:Relief Supplies for Nepal Quake Survivors 'Delayed': Agencies
International aid agencies are warning vital supplies for the survivors of the massive earthquake in Nepal are being held up by customs inspections.
The United Nations is calling on the Nepalese government to loosen its customs restrictions to allow aid to flow more quickly.
Nepalese authorities say they are lifting restrictions, saying import taxes on a number of basic necessities have all been lifted.
Nepalese Civil Aviation Secretary Suresh Man Shreshtha says more international help is still needed.
"International community have sent their relief materials but the way the planes are coming and the amount is not so much big. Till yesterday 151 international planes have brought relief materials. But it has not brought the relief materials full, small amount of relief materials."
A shortage of supply trucks is leaving many in the quake zone without help.
"We know that a lot of aid has come from outside but it has not reached where it was supposed to reach. It must reach the place it is meant for. There is no point in bringing it from outside and then storing it here. It should be distributed."
It's being reported a runway at the airport in Kathmandu has been shut down because of damage.
At the same time, Nepalese officials are suggesting more helicopeters are needed to ferry relief into the areas cut-off by last Saturday's quake.
The death toll from the 7.8-magnitude quake has now surpassed 72-hundred.
