CRI听力:Duchess of Cambridge Gives Birth to Baby Girl

2015-05-04来源:CRI

The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton has given birth to a baby girl on Saturday morning local time.

The new princess, now fourth in line to the throne, has caused quite an exciting stir among royal fans and media across the world.

CRI's Duan Xuelian reports from London.

The Duchess was admitted to hospital at 6 am Saturday morning and gave birth to the princess within 3 hours' time.

News about the royal birth reached fans and media waiting outside St. Mary's hospital two hours later.

The news was received with great excitement.

An unofficial and self-appointed town crier announced the news.

"The princess is born in line to the throne. May the princess be long-lived, happy and glorious and one day to reign over us. God saved the Queen."

The new born princess was described as a "twitter baby" as its birth was first announced through the official twitter account of Kensington Palace.

Alastair Bruce, historian and royal commentators says the princess was born into a modern generation of royal families.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge represent the future of the royal family. And I am utterly delighted that they now have a daughter to add to their son and therefore a complete nursery. Of course they may have many more children but what's interesting is, since the Succession to the Crown Act was passed by parliament in 2012, it's now secure that this princess will never give up her position in the order of succession to any brothers. In the past, all males went before the females, but that is over. "

Later on that day, Prince George, who will be two years old this July and hasn't seen by the British public for several months, was brought to the hospital to visit his little sister.
To avoid further disruption to the hospital and to satisfy the public's desire to get a glimpse of the new born princess, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge presented their second child, only a few hours old, to fans and media before they left to their home at Kensington Palace.

Now with the gender of the newest royal family member revealed, bets on her royal name have begun rolling in.

Currently, Alice and Elizabeth remains on top rank at the bookmakers with Diana often mentioned by the late Princess' of Wales die hard fans.

"I always predicted it's a girl, because it's in honor of Princess Diana. This is absolutely beautiful. William always deep down wanted to honor his mum's wishes and he did. Thank you William, we love you!"

Famous land marks including the London Eye and Tower Bridge will put on a pink light to celebrate the birth of the princess on Saturday night.
