CRI听力:China-Russia Joint Drill Enters Active Phase
The combined military drills between China and Russia have entered the active phase.
Naval forces from the two countries have arrived at the exercise area in the eastern Mediterranean.
Drills will kick off later today.
Three Chinese ships and six Russian naval vessels will be divided into four groups to carry out a series of exercises.
Jiang Guoping, Chinese Fleet Commander, says their drills will involve a variety of different tasks.
"This phase of drill will last from May 18 to 21, and will focus on maritime defense, replenishment, escorting, joint action to ensure shipping safety and use of weapons. Both China and Russia aim to safeguard maritime safety by conducting the exercise and this is also the major part of the whole drill."
The joint military drill was launched in the Black Sea on May 11.
