CRI听力:EU to propose Migrant Relocation Program
European officials have announced new plans to begin the re-location of migrants who continue to arrive on European shores in the Mediterranean.
European Commissioner for Migration, Dimitris Avramopoulos, says other EU member countries have to begin sharing the burden currently being borne by Italy and Greece.
"As of tomorrow, we are planning a proposal towards member states for the activation of the emergency mechanism where a substantial number of asylum seekers will be able to be re-settled from the front-line member countries such as Greece to other European Union member states."
The European Commission is expected to ask EU member states to take in the roughly 40-thousand asylum seekers who have arrived by boat in Italy and Greece this year.
This comes amid a massive influx of migrants from North Africa into European territory this year.
Many are from war-torn countries, including Syria and Afghanistan.
