2015-05-27来源:CRI

A deadly heat wave which has been gripping parts of India is now being blamed for over 11-hundred deaths.

Temperatures in parts of the country during the past few days have hit 47 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Most of the fatalities from the deadly heat are being recorded in the south of the country.

Raghunandan Rao with the state of Andhra Pradesh says people should avoid venturing outdoors if they can help it.

"With the temperatures reaching to 47 to 48 degrees Celsius in some areas, now the people have been advised through various mediums of communication to take adequate precautions in this regard. Mainly you know not to venture out during the hot sun time."

Many of the dead are homeless people or those living in shanty-towns which don't have ways to cool themselves.

The heat wave, which began gripping India last week, is expected to continue into later this week.

India is periodically gripped by heat waves.

They are usually broken by the annual monsoon seasons, which typically hit India in June or July.
