CRI听力:Sepp Blatter's Re-election Recieves Mixed Reaction

2015-05-31来源:CRI

FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke expressed his satisfaction at the re-election of Sepp Blatter as the organisation's president for a fifth term.

"I'm very happy for Sepp Blatter, I'm very happy for him and we will do what he is saying to make sure that we will go through this difficult time and bring back FIFA as a very strong organisation to make sure that our commercial partners, they are happy to be with FIFA and they are not asking questions and that what has happened will not happen again."

Prince Talal Bin Saud Bin Abdulaziz, President of the Arabic Sports Council, extends his congratulations.

"I congratulate Mr. Blatter for his success which was mostly expected. I also congratulate Prince Ali for his attempt. It was an excellent election challenge. I hope that Mr. Blatter will now put his hand in the hand of Mr. (Michel) Platini and that Mr. Platini realises that the contest is now over. We expect from them to put in measures to enhance the transparency and the supervision of the members of FIFA, so that it (corruption allegations) will not happen again."

However, Greg Dyke, the head of the English Football Association, says the idea that Blatter is going to bring reform to world football after 16 years at its helm is "just not acceptable".

Dyke says the investigation into corruption allegations has just began.

"You've got to look at the events of the week that went before. This is not over by any means. I just quote the Attorney General from the United States (Loretta Lynch): this is the beginning of the investigation, not the end. And the idea that Blatter, who's been in the job 16 years, can actually reform FIFA is just not acceptable. So I would be very surprised if Mr Blatter is still in this job in two years time."

Most European delegates had backed Jordan's Prince Ali, who ended up withdrawing from the race, paving the way for Blatter to secure a fifth term as FIFA president.

Blatter has very strong support in Africa and Asia, as Prince Talal Bin Badr Bin Saud Bin Abdulazis has pointed out, and most of the delegates from the two continents had voted for him.
