CRI听力:China Urges More Cooperation against Terrorism
A Chinese envoy to the UN has urged enhanced international cooperation to fight terrorism.
Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the UN told a UN Security Council meeting on Friday that the increasing transnational flow of foreign terrorist fighters has become "a new challenge" to international counter-terrorism endeavors.
Liu vowed that China will intensify its efforts in the campaign.
"China will push forward counter-terrorism domestically and internationally. China will continue to strictly implement Security Council resolutions on counter-terrorism, intensify its efforts to fight terrorism according to international law, and punish severely violent and terrorist crimes."
According to the UN, there are now over 25,000 foreign terrorist fighters from over 100 countries who have traveled to join or fight for terrorist entities associated with Al-Qaida, the Islamic State (IS), and Al-Nusrah Front.
The envoy also called for enhancement of border control and cooperation in law enforcement and financial regulations.
He also urged efforts against the utilization of the Internet to engage terrorism, such as spreading extreme ideology, recruiting, plotting terrorism activities and raising funds.
