The New York Cosmos Major League Soccer team arrived in Havana on Sunday, two days before an exhibition game against the Cuban national team.
Brazilian football legend and former Cosmos player Pele joined the Cosmos on the trip.
Pele expressed his hopes that the competition could help boost the relationship between Cuba and the United States.
"I always offer myself up for moments of peace, moments of brotherhood, and once more, we are here with soccer to create peace and happiness for the people."
The Cosmos will be the first US sports team to play on Cuban soil in 16 years following the normalization of relations between the United States and Cuba.
