Serena Williams clinched her 20th Grand Slam singles title when she won the French Open on Saturday.

The world number one outlasted Czech Lucie Safarova in three sets 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.

She offered these thoughts on her victory.

"I just felt like, you know, I had every opportunity in this match. You know, being down from second, third, fourth round, you know, it wasn't very easy, so this is definitely probably one of my I probably topped for my most difficult time to win, but also makes me feel good that I was able to be fit and be able to win the event. I can't believe I won, but it's cool," said Williams.

This marks Williams' third French Open title.

She is now third in the list of all-time major champions behind Australian Margaret Court with 24 and German Steffi Graf with 22.

Over on the men's side, world number one Novak Djokovic is through to the final of the French Open after defeating Andy Murray in five sets 6-3 6-3 5-7 5-7 6-1.

The Serb is looking to win the title for the first time in his career.

"It wasn't physically an easy match, that's for sure but I think I'll be fine for the final whatever I have rest in me, sorry, whatever I have left in me I'll put out on the court tomorrow and hopefully it can be enough." said Djokovic.

This is the third Roland Garros final in four years for Djokovic.

He will next play Swiss Stan Wawrinka for the title.

Over to men's doubles, third seeds Ivan Dodig and Mercelo Melo won the French Open men's doubles final, defeating Bob and Mike Bryan in three sets.

The Croatian Dodig and Brazilian Melo won 6-7, 7-6, 7-5.
