The Chinese Olympic Committee formally announced its bid to the International Olympic Committee as a candidate city for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games on November 11, 2013.

On March 14, 2014, the International Olympic Committee officially announced five cities bidding to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. They were Beijing, Krakow in Poland, Oslo in Norway, Almaty in Kazakhstan, and Lviv in Ukraine.

Then on July 7, 2014, President of IOC Thomas Bach made the announcement of the three candidate cities for the Olympic Winter Games 2022: Beijing, Oslo, and Almaty.

"The IOC Executive Board has extensively discussed the applications of Oslo, Almaty and Beijing to host the Winter Olympic Games 2022. Our discussions were based on a technical assessment by an expert working group. The cities are encouraged to produce bids that are best suited to their circumstances."

Oslo officially retracted its bid on October 1, 2014. That left two remaining candidate cities: Beijing and Almaty.

Representatives from the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Bid Committee arrived in Lausanne on January 6, 2015 to officially deliver their candidature file for the Winter Games to the IOC.

Chinese Olympic Committee president Liu Peng says the joint bid proposed by Beijing and Zhangjiakou will be risk-free.

"We will try our best to cooperate with the Winter Olympic Bidding Committee to complete the task of bidding, and we especially want to demonstrate to our friends from across the world that the joint bid proposed by Beijing and Zhangjiakou to host the Winter Olympic Games will be risk-free for the Olympics."

The IOC Evaluation Commission conducted its inspection of Beijing's bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games from March 24 to 28, 2015.

IOC chief inspector Alexander Zhukov spoke highly of Beijing's bid for the Games during the closing ceremony of the inspection.

"This week, you have presented your concept for 2022 in a very considerate and very collaborative way. I congratulate all of you on a job well done, and you have undoubtedly shown us that you would be a very capable host of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games."

International Olympic Committee released the report by the Evaluation Commission for the Olympic Winter Games 2022 on June 1, 2015.

Currently, a delegation of Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee is in Lausanne for the Candidate City Briefing from June 9 to 10.

The final vote is set to take place in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on July 31 this year.
