CRI听力:Risk of More MERS Cases in China Is Rising: Authorities
Chinese health authorities are cautioning the potential spread of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome in China.
Map Qun'an with China's National Health Commission says China is at particular risk for MERS, as there are numerous people from both South Korea and the Middle East heading in and out of China every day.
"The risk of MERS cases being 'exported' into our country is on a dramatic rise. This is because China has frequent personal exchanges with South Korea and Middle Eastern countries, but especially South Korea, where there is an outbreak of the disease. Therefore, according to experts, the risk has risen."
So far there is only one confirmed case of MERS in China.
A South Korean national, who broke quarantine and travelled to China for business, is currently being treated in hospital in the city of Huizhou in Guangdong.
He's said to be in stable condition.
So far 75 others who had contact with the man have tested negative.
It's being reported one of the over 100 people confirmed with MERS in South Korea is a Chinese national.
The mainland authorities have not said whether restrictions will be put in-place when it comes to travel to and from South Korea.
Hong Kong and Macao have issued travel warnings for South Korea.
