CRI听力:China's Chen Long Reaches Badminton Worlds Quarterfinals
Defending champion Chen Long of China has advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating a Thai competitor in straight-sets at the badminton World Championships in Indonesia.
The Number 1 seed will next face either seventh-seeded Viktor Axelsen of Denmark or 11th-seeded Prannoy Haseena Kumar of India.
His compatriot Lin Dan has also reached the last 8 after defeating Hans Kristian Vittinghus from Denmark.
"I played well today. This is the first real test for me. The first two opponents were not so strong. I was trying to adapt to this arena and its drifts. But the most important thing for me is to calm myself down in this loud arena. The Indonesian players were playing on both courts besides me, so you can hear their chanting. I told myself to calm down and focus on every single point."
Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei is also through after getting past China's Wang Zhengming 21-17, 21-19.
Lee is playing at the world championships as a non-seeded player after serving out an 8-month suspension for doping.
On the women's side, An upset on the Chinese side, with Li Xuerui going down to India's P.V. Sindhu in a 3-set match.
Li's teammate, Wang Shixian is through, getting past a Thai competitor in straight-sets.
In mixed doubles group, three of China's seeded pairings have successfully secured berths in the quarterfinals.
