CRI听力:Chinese Fugitive on 'Red Notice' Repatriated from U.S.

2015-09-19来源:CRI

Yang Jinjun, a Chinese suspect accused of corruption, has been repatriated by the United States. Yang fled to the US 14 years ago.

This move is the first time the U.S. government has repatriated a suspect on the list of the 100 most-wanted Chinese fugitives abroad. The list was released by China in April this year.

Yang's repatriation relied on close cooperation between the judicial, law enforcement, as well as foreign affairs authorities of China and the United States. It marked a major progress in China-U.S. law enforcement cooperation, according to a statement released on Friday by China's discipline inspection authority.

Liu Jianchao, head of the international cooperation department at Commission for Discipline Inspection, says no matter how far the suspect runs, justice will be served.

"Successful repatriation of Yang Jinjun shows that China's hunt for suspects related to corruption and embezzlement is getting more support and cooperation in the international community. Once again, the act showed that, no matter how long the suspect is at large, or how far he has run, we will bring him to justice. We will continue to work with other countries fighting corruptions."

Yang Jianjun, a 57-year-old, was the general manager of an enterprise based in Wenzhou City, in east China's Zhejiang Province. Yang escaped to the United Stated in 2001, after being suspected of corruption and bribery.

Yang is the brother of Yang Xiuzhu, former Deputy Mayor of Wenzhou. Yang Xiuzhu fled China in 2003 and is also on the 100-fugitive list.

For more on the case of Yang Jinjun, CRI reporter Zhou Jingnan spoke earlier with Professor Yue Liling from the China University of Political Science and Law.
