2015-09-26来源:CRI

As part of his time in the US, Chinese President Xi Jinping is also scheduled to attend a series of summits in the United Nations' headquaters in New York.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, says a wide range of issues will be discussed.

"We expect the Secretary-General in specific to discuss a whole round of issues with the President when he meets him. But obviously there are important issues such as sustainable development, lifting people out of poverty and climate change in which China has a critical leadership to play."

One of the summits, the UN Sustainable Development Summit, will take place later on today.

A new set of Sustainable Development Goals is expected to be adopted by the assembly.

"Obviously to be here for the adoption of the new sustainable development goal, this roadmap to eradicate poverty for the next 15 years and I think China has been a great example in development and in lifting people out of poverty."

On the invitation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Xi Jinping will give a speech at the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly.

The President is due to talk about China's development course and contribution to the world economy.

And for more on that, CRI's Tu Yun spoke with Zhou Xiaoming, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva.
