CRI听力:Folk Tibetan Singer Releases New Album

2015-10-23来源:CRI

Wangmu's new album is named after its theme song "Shou Wang Zhe" or translated into English as "Watchmen".

The singer explains the reason why she decided to give her new album such a name.

"I spent a total of three years on producing this new album. 'Watchmen' means a responsibility I have to watch over my hometown. The name also carries my pursuit in music."

The album includes Wangmu's nine new songs. Listeners may discover these songs are not just folk songs, but a new musical genre combining elements of folk and electronic pop music together. Wangmu explains:

"As I adhere to my folk music pursuit, I also embrace an input of pop elements to my singing. I wish I could continue my endeavor in promoting folk songs in hope that more and more people would come to understand and appreciate our folk culture."

Wangmu first came to public attention from her enchanting performance on China Central Television's talent show "Xingguang Dadao"(星光大道), Avenue of Stars in English. Later, she won the championship of 2009.

From herdsman's daughter to a popular performer on the national stage, Wangmu's rise to fame seems like a predestined fate since she excels in her unique artistic style.

Praised for clear melodious voice, this Tibetan singer appears happily confident.

"Most people would more or less associate Tibetan singers with a voice from heaven. I think my voice is never short of high pitch as a singer from Tibet. But I also sing pop music, which is very rare among Tibetan singers."

To promote her new album, Wangmu has recently held a small concert in Beijing, during which her teacher, famous Tibetan singer Rongzhong Erjia (容中尔甲), also attended.

Rongzhong Erjia and Wangmu have sung Tian Lai Zhi Ai ("天籁之爱") together. It is a classic song, which was later selected as theme song for Sichuan Satellite TV's Sounds of Nature (中国藏歌会),a TV show aimed to promote Tibetan folk songs.

In addition to the new album Watchmen, another excitement comes from Rongzhong Erjia, who promised at Wangmu's concert that he would invite her to play a major role in his upcoming film.

Wangmu says she would take the opportunity to make progress in the future.

"As soon as I heard my teacher plans to shoot a movie, I was pleading him constantly to let me portray a role in it. However he's never given me a nod until that day at my concert to help me promote my new album. It's a pleasant surprise that encourages me to continue to work hard."

In fact, the songs in Wangmu's new album all vary in styles ranging from sweet, soft feminine to strong rock music. But all of them are soulful, giving listeners an amazing experience to get to know the characteristic of Tibetan folk songs.
