CRI听力:Booming E-commerce Connects Brazilian Consumers to Quality Chinese Products

2016-01-07来源:CRI

Brazil has seen strong growth in the number of online shoppers, with 62 million people - or nearly one-third of the population - making purchases online.

Renata Lage, a 27-year-old Rio de Janeiro TV producer, is one of them.

She says most of her products are purchased through Aliexpress, a global online shopping platform created by Chineses e-commerce giant Alibaba.

"This watch, for example, is Chinese. It was very cheap, around two dollars, it has a nice design and is something we could never find here."

Many Chinese e-commerce companies like Alibaba have taken a series of measures to attract more Brazilian customers, such as providing cheaper products and creating Portuguese-language websites.

Kevin Tang, the director of the Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce, says all the friendly strategies used by the Chinese e-commerce giants make online shopping popular in Brazil:

"You have competitive prices, you have a reliable secure safe platform you can buy online, you have a wide variety of products and you have greater access to those internet sites that before Brazilians didn't have. So putting all that together, it is only logical that Brazilians would opt to buy from China,"

The Brazilian government has also launched a series of measures to boost e-commerce development between Brazil and China.

For example, imported goods costing up to the equivalent of 50 U.S. dollars are tax free in Brazil. Above that, the government adds a 60 percent tax.

The two sides have also closely cooperated to speed up the delivery process.

Alberto de Mello Mattos is the head of the international department of the Brazilian Post.

"All the interaction of Brazilian consumers will be done via the Internet, from customs clearance to payment of duty taxes. It will be done through a portal that will allow home delivery, avoiding long lines in post offices to meet those demands,"

Stats show that Brazil is expected to become the 10th largest e-commerce market by 2018.
