CRI听力:US Secretary of State Visits China

2016-01-27来源:CRI

US Secretary of State John Kerry is in Beijing for meetings with top Chinese officials.

Our reporter Zhai Lei, who is following Kerry's visit, has more details on the American official's schedule.

"The Secretary of State is going to meet Foreign Minister Wang Yi this morning, and meet the press aftermath; he will then sit down for talks with State Councilor Yang Jiechi. Also, there are media reports suggesting that as the Afghan Foreign Minister is also visiting Beijing, a trilateral meeting is also on the schedule. This has not been verified by the Chinese Foreign Ministry yet."

According to Zhai, the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula is expected to be high on the agenda during Kerry's talks with Chinese officials. And there has been more attention on the South China Sea and Taiwan as well.

"Mr Kerry has had plenty of discussion about issues concerning the South China Sea during his visit to Laos and Cambodia, plus the US President is going to meet the head of states of the ASEAN member countries later on next month. So whether and how the South China Sea issue would be discussed today is highly watched. Also, as Taiwan just held its election for its leader, many observers believe that it is also one of the topics on the table."

For more on Kerry's visit, CRI's Liu Kun earlier spoke with Clifford Kiracofe, Foreign Affairs professor at the Virginia Military Institute.
