CRI听力:Virtual Reality Headsets Highlighted at Taipei Game Show

2016-02-01来源:CRI

During the event, which is considered to be one of the biggest gaming exhibitions in Asia, Sony PlayStation brought its yet-to-be-released VR headset named PlayStation VR.

18-year-old game show visitor Lee Hau-ting said wearing the head gear while playing video games could make the effects seem much more authentic.

"I get bored very quick if I play video games without wearing it. But when I wear the headset I can feel myself really acting in the game. It's more fun, I would want to play more."

Sony has confirmed that the device will go to market this year, but the company is yet to provide a specific release date or pricing details.

While visitors are trying out Sony's device sit on chairs, those trying the new Vive headset at HTC's booth are allowed to move around up to 5 by 5 meters with a tracking system using Vive technology.

Johan Yang, Game Developer and Co-Founder of company Future Town, explained further.

"We have this option of developing a different kind of game, not just sitting down, but you actually walk around in a virtual world. And I think that makes a huge different when you see yourself walking in a virtual world, instantly you're in the virtual world. So no longer are you seeing this flat 2-D surface, you're actually surrounded by the world."

Raymond Pao, Vice President of VR New Technology at HTC, said the company also hopes that the headset might one day be used in physical therapy or drills for high-risk tasks.

"Our tracking device has a good accuracy and a low input lag. Our high-quality monitor, handheld controllers and a positioning system helps users experience themselves acting in the virtual world. In general, I think the virtual reality system we have invented is the best product in the world."

Live-streamed gaming on the Internet has also become an eye-catching phenomenon at the event, as online audiences watching live games are growing in size around the world, and the industry is adapting to capture this growing interest.

One major player is Twitch, a live-streaming online channel allowing gamers to broadcast the on-screen action, facecams, as well as gaming-related events and online gaming tournaments.

The San Francisco-based company was bought by Amazon 2 years ago for almost 1 billion U.S. dollars, and it now has over 100 million viewers per month.

Karen Chu from Twitch Sales Team explained the benefits of the platform.

"It's all live and that's amazing because it's like you're watching things happening right now. You can talk to all of the people who are watching you through chat. And it's like a really great online community experience and everybody is sharing this experience together."

Taipei Game Show runs from January 28 to February 2.
