CRI听力:FM Says China to More Actively Engage in International Affairs
As a major part of his speech to the U.S. think tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Minister Wang Yi tried to assure the listeners that China's development is still well on track.
"A hard landing for China's economy won't happen, and China's reform and opening-up policy won't end. "
Wang Yi said an important mission of China's foreign policy is to maintain a stable and friendly external environment to help realize the nation's renaissance.
However, he added the task is not easy.
"Now the world is not so peaceful, and one of the most important reasons is that the mission of the United Nations Charter has not been well implemented. The principles such as nonintervention of internal affairs and peaceful settlement of disputes have been abandoned. "
Wang Yi vowed that China would never force other countries to accept its social system and development philosophy, adding that the China-proposed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank was aimed at helping improve the current international financial system, while the Silk Road initiatives at serving local development in all participating countries.
The minister also noted that China needs to do more when it comes to protecting Chinese citizens, enterprises and interests overseas.
On the China-US relations, Wang Yi said the two sides have far more common interests than differences.
"Will China become leading rival of U.S. in the future, and even replace U.S.? I don't think so. Although China has been the second largest economy, it's still a developing country. China needs to focus on its development in the long term. China won't compete with others, let alone replace others."
Furthermore, the minister said China has already played an expected role in solving issues such as Iran, Syria, South Sudan, and Afghanistan and it's role can be bigger when it comes to international and regional hotspot issues.
