A Broadway classic musical 'My Fair Lady' will land in Beijing, starting from Thursday afternoon, also during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. It's performed in English with Chinese subtitles.

Based on George Bernard Shaw's 1912 play Pygmalion, MY FAIR LADY, literally translated into "Yao Tiao Shu Nv" in Chinese, is expected to transport audiences to one of the most beautiful stories ever told about language and the clash of cultures.

The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from a professor and also a phoneticist, Henry Higgins (亨利?希金斯), who wagers that he can turn Eliza into a "proper lady" in three months' time.Actor Chris Carsten portrays the professor. He recently spoke of the cast's China tour while promoting the musical in Beijing.

"There are a host of challenges that we are confronted with, but we're all eager to do it because this is what we love to do most. And it's a great pleasure to bring this particular piece to China and to Chinese audiences all across the country. So you can see what a wonderful story it is!"

An Oscar-winning film version was made in 1964, directed by George Cukor and with Audrey Hepburn in the part of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl.

The upcoming musical, directed by Jeffrey B. Moss, includes classic songs like "The Rain in Spain," "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" and "Get Me to The Church On Time". Earlier the musical was well-received in China's emerging global financial hubs of Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Beijing audiences may experience the beautiful music at the theatre in Tianqiao Performing Arts Center. And the musical 'My Fair Lady' will stay available in Beijing until the 19th of June.
