CRI听力:Merkel Visit Opportunities for Both Markets

2016-06-13来源:CRI

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's ninth visit to China is expected to open a new chapter in trade and investment cooperation on both governmental and personal levels between the two countries.

The President of Germany Trade and Invest, Benno Bunse, believes good economic relations will boost the development of enterprises in both countries.

"I think it is very important for the two countries to have good relations as it would support enterprises in their trade and commercial activities. Therefore, the visit is of great significance. The good bilateral relations manifest in Merkel's frequent visit to China. I think this is a major support to economic and trade activities."

China's quick and frequent acquisitions have caused alarm in some economic circles in Germany.

But Bunse says they have been in a similar situation in the past, and China brings more opportunities than threats.

"It is not the first time to have such a discussion. There was a heated discussion about Japan in 1980s when the Japanese economy was very strong. But now, it's China. I think Germany is an open country in investment. We should treat Chinese investors the same as German investors. We welcome them. It is a good thing that Chinese investors are interested in Germany. The disputes will end and they will not last."

Capital is flowing in both directions. And some German enterprises are working hard to win a share of the Chinese market.

Architectural firm Co-Ordination identified opportunities and took action early by opening an office in Shanghai.

Its CEO Jochen Gringmuth explains his interest and ambitions in China.

"Beyond the European market, China is very exciting and versatile for us to be engaged in design and design-based projects. In addition to the economic issues, our curiosity in China plays a big role, too. We want to explore a new market, a new country, a new culture."

Many observers believe Germany is in an ideal position to feed the Chinese market with high-end products and cutting-edge technology.

China meanwhile is regarded as being placed to provide vast investment opportunities in return.
