CRI听力:Wanda Cinema Line Releases New Film List for 2016
The Wanda Cinema Line has recently released some 30 films that are going to be available in Chinese cinemas later this year.
A total of nine films are Hollywood titles. Greg Foster is the CEO of IMAX Entertainment Corporation.
"As our network grows again very much with Wanda in tier 3 and 4 cities, the focus that we've made recently is complementing our big Hollywood titles, like the Harry Potters, etc. with local-language films. Then you'll see in July and August, in September, October and December, a big push for IMAX and local language businesses."
The nine films include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, The Wolverine 3, Pacific Rim 2 and the Great Wall, an American-Chinese 3D science-fiction action film directed by Zhang Yimou.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows has already locked in the date of release in China on the 2nd of July.
Also, according to Zeng Maojun, president of Wanda Cinema Line, the country's biggest exhibitor, China will overtake the U.S. in total number of screens next year.
Zeng said that China was adding 21 new screens a day and that the demand for new theaters was still far from saturation.
In 2015, China had 31,627 screens, an increase of 8,035 screens from the previous year.
The release of the new film list took place at an evening gala, held by Zeng Maojun-led Wanda Cinema Line, of the sidelines of the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival.
Renowned figures in the film industry joining the gala include director Pan An'zi, Zou Xian, actress Zhang Jingchu and musician Tengger. In addition, the event also saw the presence of international film companies, like IMAX.
