CRI听力:Andy Murray Wins Second Wimbledon Title
Center court at Wimbledon saw one of its most memorable matches on Sunday.
This time, Murray is not facing Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer. At the other end of the line is up and coming Canadian player Milos Raonic. It's his debut in a Grand Slam title and the 25-year old has had difficulty playing against the British number one.
Pumped up by the home crowd, Murray took the first set 6-4 in under half an hour, but tensions began to mount as he struggled to make break points in the second set. After several intense volleys, the two finalists brought the match to its first tiebreak. Murray, who plays an immaculate service game, consolidated his advantage by winning the tiebreak 7-3.
And the match just got better as the two players brought each other into a second tiebreak in the third set. Never so eager to be able to hold the Wimbledon trophy gain, the British number one was on fire, finishing the match in the tiebreak, 7-2.
Murray has claimed his second Wimbledon win and the third Grand Slam title of his career.
"This is the most important tournament for me every year. I've had some great moments here but also some tough losses the wins feel extra special because of the tough losses. I'm proud for having my hand on the trophy again."
The British number one has tremendous support from the home crowd and also boasts some of the most high profile VIP guests in the royal box including the British Prime Minister and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
"A lot of legend players up there watching as well, it's a pleasure to play in front of you. The Prime Minister of the country is also here, so thanks every one for coming out, I'll see you next year. "
The Wimbledon Champion earned two millions pounds of prize money this year.
