CRI听力:Day three of DNC sees Party leaders come out swinging against Trump

2016-07-29来源:CRI

Day three in Philadelphia, and the lineup saw heavy-hitters in the Democratic Party landing solid blows on GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Vice President Joe Biden issued a stern rebuke of Trump's reality television-molded character.

“His cynicism is unbounded. His lack of empathy and compassion can be summed up in a phrase I suspect he's most proud of having made famous: 'You're fired.' I mean really, I'm not joking. Think about that. Think about that. Think about everything you learned as a child, no matter where you were raised. How can there be pleasure in saying, 'You're fired.' He's trying to tell us he cares about the middle class. Give me a break. That's a bunch of malarkey."

The man who hopes to succeed Biden, Vice Presidential nominee Tim Kaine, eschewed the traditional role for the second spot on the ticket as an attack dog, and instead offered an outstretched hand to disaffected Republicans.

"If any of you are looking for that party of Lincoln, we've got a home for you right here in the Democratic Party!"

Kaine also highlighted the kindred spirit he feels with the woman at the top of the ticket.

"Hillary Clinton and I are companeros del alma. We share this basic belief -- it's simple: Do all the good you can and serve one another. Pretty simple. Pretty simple. That's what I'm about. That's what you're about. That's what Bernie Sanders is about. That's what Jill and Joe Biden is about. That's what Barack and Michelle Obama are about. And that's what Hillary Clinton is about."

Also pulling no punches against the GOP standard-bearer was President Barack Obama. Despite divisions in the party between its moderate and progressive wings, it is clear that President Obama's charisma still captivates Democrats of all stripes.

He used what is likely his final time to have an audience of this size as President do go after Trump's pessimistic vision of America presented at the GOP convention.

“But what we heard in Cleveland last week wasn't particularly Republican - and it sure wasn't conservative. What we heard was a deeply pessimistic vision of a country where we turn against each other, and turn away from the rest of the world. There were no serious solutions to pressing problems - just the fanning of resentment, and blame, and anger, and hate. And that is not the America I know. "

Obama, his legacy on the line, says there is only one candidate in the race worhy to inherent it.

“And there is only one candidate. And there is only one candidate in this race who believes in that future, and has devoted her life to it; a mother and grandmother who'd do anything to help our children thrive; a leader with real plans to break down barriers, and blast through glass ceilings, and widen the circle of opportunity to every single American - the next President of the United States, Hillary Clinton."
