The first test of an elevated bus concept has taken place in the coastal city of Qinhuangdao in Hebei.

At 22-meters long and 8-meters wide, the elevated bus allows traffic to run underneath it while running on tracks on either side of the road.

It can carry as many as 300 passengers at a time.

Designers of the elevated bus say it has the potential to cut traffic congestion by as much as 35-percent in certain areas of a city.

The state of the art concept has been under consideration in China for a number of years, but is just now undergoing testing.

For more on this, CRI's Bob Jones spoke earlier with Jiang Chen, lecturer with the Department of Transportation Design at Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
