2016-08-05来源:CRI

August 3, Rio de Janeiro, the day before the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The first match of this year's Olympics started with Sweden taking on South Africa in women's football, 1 to 0.

China lost to Brazil 0 to 3 in the match followed.

The first Olympic medalist is expected to rise at the women's 10-meter air rifle, due to take place on Saturday.

Defending champion and also four-time Olympic champion Du Li is gearing up for her competition, while dealing with the impacts brought by the 11-hour time difference between Beijing and Rio.

"I still felt a bit jet lagged, a bit tired. But I think I will get ready soon because I'm quite familiar with the shooting range."

Also under the spotlight, China's dream diving team are also facing challenges as the host city of the Summer Olympics is actually in the midst of winter-time.

Shi Tingmao is training for the 3m springboard diving event.

"I'm trying to protect myself from sickness like a cold or a fever that would affect my training. And the time is very limited. So I'm trying my best to get familiar with the swimming arena and the environment. I think it is very natural to encounter difficulties during the Olympic Games. With the games starting, I think a positive attitude is very important."

Turning to track and field, the world is anticipating whether sprinter Usain Bolt will refresh his world record.

On the other hand, the Chinese team is also looking to stride into the final round of the 100 meter relay race.

Zhang Peimeng is a member of the athletics team.

"I think the handoff is the focus of our training. Because we did not have much time to practice back in Beijing due to injuries and scheduling arrangements."

Rio 2016 is also welcoming a new sports discipline into its family.

Golf, finally after over a century, will be seen at the Olympic Games.

Four Chinese golfers, including Wu Ashun, will be competing this time, marking the first ever team from China that enters the Olympics.

"Every athlete is very proud, including me, to compete for our country. I hope I can take our national flag up to the podium."

China has sent its largest ever team to Rio de Janeiro this year, with some 420 athletes.

Olympic fencing champion Lei Sheng will be the team's flag-bearer at the opening ceremony, as announced earlier today.

For CRI, this is Fei Fei.
