Commenting on the Chinese Presidency of the G20 summit, the Lord Mayor said that the increasing involvement from developing countries into the world economy is very much welcomed.

"The great thing about Chinese leadership of the G20 is that China is quite focused on growth and global economic growth is at the heart of the meeting, also I think China's focus on green development at the moment is very positive, because it is a problem that need us to work together to face the challenges. "

This year's summit will concentrate on four key concepts, including finding innovative ways to stimulate global growth. It's an area in which the Lord Mayor believes the UK can play a leading role.

"If I could relate to something I know about, it's a matter of great pride to me that we are at the key center of FinTech now, and I think it all has to do with the digital age. We are putting great importance to it so that UK will be expected to be a major player in that going forward."

The UK has been an active member of the G20 group and this year's summit will see British Prime Minister Theresa May making her first appearance at a major international conference.

During the summit, the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This will be the first high-level exchange between China and Britain since President Xi Jinping's state visit to the UK last year.

The Lord Mayor says he believes the summit will provide a perfect opportunity for the Prime Minister to consolidate the UK's bilateral relations with China.

"I think it's the Chinese who say "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", we've seen so many positive steps and I think we need to maintain that and take more steps forward. I can't at this moment think of any massive obstacles and I believe we have all the time to build on our mutual corporation and trust. "

The Lord Mayor will lead a business delegation to China on September 7th to strengthen commercial ties between the UK and China. He will use the visit to reassure the Chinese government and industry figures that the UK remains open for business after the Brexit.
