CRI听力:China to cancel long distance & roaming charges starting from Oct. 1
China is planning to eliminate mobile roaming charges and fees for long-distance calls nationwide starting from October 1 of this year.
China's top three telecom giants, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom have each acknowledged the changes during a news conference on Monday.
The announcement comes one day after Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said that China will cancel the roaming charges and fees while delivering a government work report on the opening day of the fifth session of the 12th National People's Congress.
Chinese authorities also plan to cut broadband fees for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as reducing charges for international calls.
The Premier has also outlined plans to increase broadband speeds and lower rates for Internet services.
