CRI听力:Xi presents new CPC central leadership, roadmap for next 5 years
Xi Jinping was again elected General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, leading its seven-seat Political Bureau Standing Committee.
The other six members of the top leadership are Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji and Han Zheng.
Xi Jinping has also retained his position as the head of the Central Military Commission.
In accepting his continued roles for the coming five years, the 64-year-old leader says he's buoyed by the support from the Party.
"I have been re-elected as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. I see this not just as approval of my work, but also encouragement that will spur me on."
Also at the first plenum of the 19th CPC Central Committee on Wednesday, Zhao Leji was elected Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Party.
Xi Jinping says the Party remains committed to fighting corruption within its ranks.
"Exercising full and rigorous governance over the party is a journey to which there is no end. We should never entertain the idea of taking a breath or halting our momentum. Instead we need to continue to rid ourselves of any viruses that erode the Party's fabric. We also need to make greater efforts to foster a healthy environment of integrity and generate positive energy throughout our party which can then build into a mighty nationwide force driving China's development and progress."
Xi Jinping has also outlined his broader plans for China over the coming five years, noting that the 19th CPC National Congress has set new goals and tasks that must be seen through.
He says the underlying goal of these new plans is to create benefits for all Chinese people and eradicate poverty.
"This is a society to be enjoyed by each and every one of us; on the march toward common prosperity, no one must be left behind. We will mobilize the whole Party and the whole country in a resolute push to deliver on our pledge and eradicate poverty in China. The aspirations of the people to live a better life must always be the focus of our efforts. I have no doubt in my mind that our people's lives will see further improvement year after year."
Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the launch of Reform and Opening-up set forward by late leader Deng Xiaoping.
In advancing the CPC's current goals, Xi Jinping suggests they will continue building on the foundation laid out by Deng in 1978, creating new reforms which will help open China even wider to the rest of the world.
