Chinese speed skaters have been struggling to make the podium at this weekend's ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating event in Shanghai.
Despite the lack of medals, the Chinese team is still displaying some optimism about its chances next year at the Winter Olympics.

Wu Dajing has been the highlight of Team China thus-far.

He managed to hold off a pair of South Korean skaters in an intense final, earning gold in the mens' 500 meter competetion.

"I never lost sight of them. I made sure I accelerated throughout the race. Everyone behind me is my enemy, isn't that right?"

Wu Dajing's victory is the only medal for China's so far this weekend.

The women's 500 meters semifinals saw Chinese star Fan Kexin jump the gun, disqualifying herself.

"I will train and work on my consistency when I get back to Beijing. I believe in my speed. This time I didn't handle things very well. Fortunately it's not the Olympic Games."

In mid and long-distance individual events, China's woes continue.

Zhou Yang was caught in a pile-up in the women's 15-hundred meter semifinals, failing to qualify for the finals.

"To me personally, I have been doing better and better at every World Cup. I settled into my own groove during the semifinals but I also discovered some problems after I finished 4th and reached Final B."

Chinese skater Zang Yize was caught up in a dramatic crash of her own in the Ladies' 500 meter quarterfinals.

Zang was clipped by Dutch skater, slamming into the barrier.

She had to be strechered off with a back injury.

Doctors are still trying to determine the severity.
