CRI听力:Foreign experts who help translate report to CPC National Congress

2017-11-18来源:CRI

The translation was joined by language experts from the UK, France, Russia, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Sudan, and Laos.

English expert Holly Snape said she's glad to be part of the effort.

"To me, to translate the report for the congress, thoughtfully, fluently, and accurately, I thought like that in a small way was helping other parts of the world to understand this historical moment to China in China's own development, and also in terms of China's development as a responsible country on the international stage."

As Snape shares her experience, she talks about the difficulties she came about.

"I think one of the biggest challenges is that the Chinese language is such a rich language – so full of idiomatic… things like what we call in China 成语. So when it comes to this kind of thing in a text like this, of course we need to translate its meaning and to translate it faithfully rather than to literally translate word for word something like 成语."

According to the foreign experts, the report can shed light on everything happening in China.

The report used "truly remarkable" to describe China's historical achievements in recent five years.

Arabic expert Mustafa Mohamed Ahmed Yahia says they could feel the changes through their living and working experience in China.

"I think the most seen and pleasant part is how they talk about the new era. This new era is something that caught my mind. China now is entering the newest stage of development. So that is something new."

As the first reader of each language version of the report, the experts believe the report enhanced Chinese people's confidence of realizing their dreams and will contribute wisdom to global development.
