CRI听力:China-Israel documentary gains popularity

Alexander Pevzner is the founding director of the Chinese Media Center at the College of Management-Academic Studies.

As a China expert, Pevzner found the documentary to be a reflection of Chinese realities and recommend it to his students.

"There's no perfect country in the world. This is why the documentary emphasized China's changes since the reform and opening up. I think the documentary is very positive. I have even shared it on my Facebook account, and I show it to my students. Most of them have never been to China. I think this film will inspire them to have a real experience in China."

An official with Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hagai Shagrir, observed that the documentary also reflects the cultural differences between the two countries.

He said China and Israel can learn from each other's education system.

"The school children in Israel are always told to question what the teacher is telling them. And we think this is the most important thing in education, and afterward allows innovation in our society because people are always questioning and are now trying to do things better. So maybe here China's education system can learn from Israel's education system."

Israeli diplomat Nadav Tamir believes the jointly produced documentary conveys a message of cooperation.

"Yeah, absolutely, I think this combination also became more credible because if it's only a Chinese company, people would think it's propaganda. But if Israel and China are [both] involved, they [would] trust more; it's more credible. And also you add local stuff that China cannot bring, so I think this combination is a very good formula."

The documentary was jointly produced by Israeli Television Channel II and the Hebrew Service of China Radio International.

The shooting took place last March, and it aired following the conclusion of the 19th CPC National Congress, with an aim to help Israeli people learn more about China.
