An Australian economist says U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to impose massive tariffs on imports from China will undermine the rules-based order on world trade.

Dr. James Laurenceson, Professor and Deputy Director of the Australia-China Relations Institute at the University of Technology Sydney, also believes that the China-US trade is all about competition, which should not be an excuse for imposing tariffs.

For more on the Trump administration's tariff proposal against China, here's the interview between Professor Laurenceson and CRI's Australia correspondent Qi Zhi.
