President Xi Jinping has stressed the need for acting on a people-centered philosophy of development during a two-day inspection of Inner Mongolia.

This is Xi Jinping's second inspection trip to the autonomous region since 2012.

On Monday and Tuesday, he inspected the city of Chifeng and the regional capital Hohhot.

In a village in Chifeng, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee applauded local development.

"This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the country. The changes here fully prove it is correct for China to follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics as people's life keeps improving. Inner Mongolia has always been an model in consolidating ethnic unity. There is no estrangement between cultures, histories and customs of different ethnic groups. This is why we established autonomous regions."

He also asked the primary-level Party organizations in rural areas to be strengthened to better serve the rural people and agriculture.

Xi Jinping's first stop in Hohhot was at Inner Mongolia University.

There, he called on the students to gear themselves to the needs of the nation.

"The strength of a nation depends on its youth. The future competition is the competition among youth. Young people today will be the backbone in realizing the second Centenary Goal. You should aim high while working in earnest, study hard and lay a solid foundation, improve your capability and prepare to contribute wisdom and strength to the rejuvenation of the nation."

During the inspection, Xi Jinping stressed the importance of maintaining sustained and sound economic growth and social stability.

He underlined the important strategic status of Inner Mongolia, calling on the region to promote high-quality economic development.

While requiring efforts to focus on ethnic unity and the fight against poverty, he also suggested more could be done to promote environmental protection and green development.
