中国红十字会接受监督
The Red Cross Society of China has unveiled more details about the independent supervising body it is establishing.
The new committee will have 16-members drawn from the public, including professionals, celebrities and volunteers with various backgrounds.
Huang Weimin, an attorney in Beijing, has been appointed secretary-general of the committee.
"We stand here for the citizen, for the people. Our responsibility is to set up a mechanism which can mobilize the public to function as the supervisors."
The committee members will receive salaries from sources outside the Red Cross Society of China, and each term of membership lasts for three years.
To ensure proper and accurate public communication, the committee includes Bai Yansong, a well-known China Central Television presenter and commentator, and Yuan Yue, president of the Horizon Research Group.
Yao Lixin is a spokesperson for the Red Cross society.
"The decision comes as to maintain credibility and good reputations for the members. Meanwhile they are also subjected to social supervision from all aspects to make sure its own independent function."
The move to establish the new independent advisory committee follows the scandals which gripped the Red Cross last year involving a number of allegations of the misuse of funds.
It is reported that donations to the organization plummeted nearly 60 percent year-on-year in 2011.
