中美关系新模式
Chinese President Xi Jinping has met up with visiting U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, pledging China's commitment to a new model of China-U.S. relationship.
Su Yi has more.
Report: The Chinese President says China will continue to beef up exchanges with the U.S. in the new year.
"China is firmly committed to building a new model of China-U.S. relationship together with the U.S. In the new year, we will continue to enhance dialogue, boost mutual trust and cooperation and properly handle differences so as to forge ahead with the lasting and healthy development of ties."
For his part, Kerry says taking an updated approach to the ties between the two countries is very important for the U.S. as well.
He also calls on two sides to strengthen concrete cooperation and give more impetus for the development of ties.
"We hope that 2014 will be a year of concrete progress in defining the new modern relationship, managing our differences effectively and finding a way to cooperate practically where ever possible."
The two also discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying:
"We have always believed that the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula should be solved through the framework of the six party talks. At the same time, we want to find a balanced solution to the legitimate and reasonable concerns of North Korea. In this way, it'll be in the interests of all parties."
The U.S. Secretary of State arrived in Beijing from Seoul earlier this morning, starting his two-day visit to China.
His visit to South Korea comes as the two Koreas held their highest-level talks in seven years.
During today's meeting, Kerry also met up with other Chinese senior leaders, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
This is Kerry's second visit to China and fifth to Asia since he took office in February last year.
He is expected to visit Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates later.
