President Xi Jinping's visit to Cambodia will be his first trip to the Southeast Asian country since he took office.

The Chinese president will meet with King Norodom Sihamoni as well as hold talks with Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The agenda for the visit to Bangladesh will include meetings between President Xi and the country's president, prime minister, and National Assembly Speaker.

Kong Xuanyou, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister, says these meetings provide a good opportunity for China to discuss its "Belt and Road" initiative with the two countries to its south.

"Cooperation within the framework of One Belt and One Road will be a key point for discussion during President Xi Jinping's stay in Cambodia and Bangladesh. Both countries have a strong will to engage in the initiative. President Xi will bring fresh ideas on how to deepen cooperation. We are looking forward to reaching a new consensus in this regard."

After concluding the two state visits on October 15th, President Xi Jinping will move on to India's Goa to attend the 8th BRICS summit to be presided over by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The event comes more than a month after leaders of the five major emerging economies held an unofficial meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou.

Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Li Baodong says China has many expectations of the upcoming summit.

"First of all, BRICS should send a positive signal that we are united and cooperative. Second, China hopes the five countries would go deeper to explore more cooperation opportunities in areas such as trade, finance, and humanity. Third, we should strengthen our coordination and communication when it comes to major international issues, so as to protect our mutual benefits. Last but not least, we should promote the idea of strengthening regional dialogues and cooperation."

The focal point of the summit is to try to establish a mechanism whereby the five countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Arica, can work together to roll out effective and inclusive solutions to their mutual problems.

The five leaders will also hold talks with the member states of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation.

During the Summit, President Xi Jinping will also hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of relevant countries.

A final document, the Goa Declaration, is expected to be issued after the summit.
