[02:00.82]Dr Ma.please tell us something about blindness.
[02:07.87]Blindness affects about 45 million people around the world.
[02:14.53]Mostly in poor countries.
[02:18.79]The good news is that 80 per cent of the cases of blindness
[02:24.67]can be cured or prevented.
[02:28.92]But the bad news is
[02:33.08]that many people do not have the money for medical treatment.
[02:38.93]How does ORBIS help?
[02:42.90]ORBIS uses a flying eye hospital to visit poor countries.
[02:49.25]On the plane.volunteer doctors perform orperations.
[02:55.52]We also use the plane as a teaching centre.

[03:06.23]Why don't you work in a hospital?
[03:10.62]Many of our patients are so poor
[03:15.27]that they don't have the money to travel to hospital,
[03:20.12]so we have to go to them.
[03:24.28]Also.local doctors and nurses can come to our plane to learn about eye operations.
[03:32.53]We teach them new skills and knowledge.
[03:37.08]They can even watch the operations on video.
[03:42.25]By training local doctors and nurses.we hope to help more people.
[03:49.02]How many operations do you perform during a visit?
[03:55.18]We need to work very quickly.During my last visit,
[04:01.84]I operated on 150 patients on the plane.When I worked in a hospital,
[04:09.70]I used to do only two or three operations a day.
[04:15.06]It's hard work but I'm used to it now.
[04:20.02]People must be really grateful to you.Yes.indeed they are.
