Crews are digging out Gillette Stadium where the Patriots are looking for traction against the Jets today. There are snowy scenes like this all over the Northeast today, where storm warnings are in effect from Michigan to Maine. The storm is also causing flight delays and cancellations in Chicago and New York.
Massive damage in Land O' Lakes, Florida after a tornado ripped the roof of a Pasco County jail. Powerful winds also overturned a number of vehicles. No one was hurt. The sheriff's department says inmates were evacuated moments before the storm.
Well, less than three weeks until the first votes are cast, the Des Moines Register taps Hilary Clinton for the Democrats and Boston Globe comes down for rival Barack Obama. Both papers have endorsed Republican John McCain.
A parade in southern Iraq today as the British military turned control of Basra province over to Iraqi troops. Iraqi forces now have primary responsibility for 9 of Iraq's 18 provinces. Basra was the last province under British control. Britain plans to pull all but 2,000 of its troops out by springtime.
The British security handover wasn't the only milestone in Basra today. A passenger train between Baghdad and Basra chugged out of the Iraqi capital for the first time in four years. The service was halted in 2003 when a number of Iraqi trains were attacked shortly after Saddam Hussein’s fall from power.
And it’s another box office record for Will Smith. His latest megabudget epic landed the biggest December opening weekend of all time. "I'm A Legend" opened to more than 76 million dollars in ticket sales this weekend. And that’s according to studio estimates. In second place, another new movie " Alvin and the Chipmunks" starring Jason Lee took in 45 million.
