Good afternoon, I'm Reggie Aqui from the cnn center in Atlanta and here's a look at what's happening Now In The News.
Two women held hostage for years by Colombian rebels have now arrived in Venezuela. President Hugo Chavez trumpeted his role in a missions to free them weeks ago before several delays slowed down that effort. Clara Rojas was an aide to a fellow hostage and former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt and Consuelo Gonzalez was a former congresswoman. Now they've been held by FARC rebels for almost six years.
A day after another disappointing performance in New Hampshire, it looks like New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is calling it quits. The Democrat officially broke the news to reporters a little while ago. In a campaign where the word "experience" has been thrown around a lot, Richardson had plenty of it-- both energy secretary and UN ambassador on his resume. But he also had back-to-back fourth-place finishes in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Investigators now say they know why an F-15 fighter jet broke apart last November in the skies over Missouri. A report points to a faulty metal beam in the 42-million-dollar aircraft. That report goes on to say that faulty beam has, that faulty beams, I should say, have been found in 163 more F-15s. The fighter remains grounded.
A judge says a former teacher and confessed sex offender did violate her parole, but he is not sending her to prison. Debra Lafave pleaded guilty to having sex with one of her students in 2004. She was sentenced to probation and house arrest. Now the judge determined Lafave violated the terms of her probation by discussing her private life with a teenage co-worker at a restaurant. But he says the violation wasn't wilful and now he is not ordering her to be locked up.
The Associated Press reports a coroner's report is now on Donda West, the mother of rapper Kanye West. She died in November after undergoing a plastic surgery procedure. The AP reports the coroner says the cause of her death can not be determined but that there were no signs of surgical or anaesthetic problems. Donda West was 58 years old.
And there you have the headlines this hour. Stay with cnn for more on these stories and the other news of the day.
